Bio

Poogy Bjerklie was born in Maine and attended Haystack School where she studied sculpture and jewelry. She later graduated from Maine College of Art in metal smithing which lead to a career as a jewelry designer and diamond setter. Shortly thereafter Bjerklie joined an artist group and expanded into furniture design, specializing in painted fabric. Using this fabric to make wearable art resulted in her entering the fashion world. After relocating to NYC, she exhibited at the American Craft Museum and Lincoln Center.

In 1999 she started making paintings at a camp owned by a family member in her native Maine. It was there that, in the midst of reconnecting with her familial roots, that she recognized that painting was the medium to best express her vision. Bjerklie’s first solo show in 2006 was followed by exhibitions in galleries, museums, and universities. She has since exhibited at the Maine Museum of Art, Edward Thorp Gallery, and Sears-Peyton gallery, both located in NYC.
