Erin Parish (b. 1966, USA) explores atmospheric and liminal spaces to be experienced both intuitively and physically. Her subtly layered works of resin and mixed media offer a sense of quietude and depth. This is true for her paintings as well as her sculpture.

She is interested in the act of looking, of seeing, of curiosity. She wants the viewer to approach her works from the point of view of a child, without expectations or bias, unsullied by the noise of humanity.

These geometric forms are free from narratives, autobiography, or symbology, which sustains universality. She wants an even interpretation by all viewers, unencumbered by politics and the like.

Inspired by the diverse manifestations of the ocean, the contemplative principles of Buddhism, and the aesthetics inherent in Japanese Wabi Sabi, her work focused the repetition of geometric forms, reflecting their correspondence at both microscopic and macroscopic levels.

Glossy resin surfaces and vivid colors attract the eye, while abstract forms appear to shift and move endlessly across the surface. The circular shapes are enlivened through techniques of repetition, layering, and transparency. In this manner, Parish establishes a space for abstract experience and metaphysical contemplation.

Parish currently works and resides in Miami Beach. She received her BA from Bennington College in Vermont and her MFA from Queens College in New York. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and featured in publications including The New York Times, Artnews, Art in America, and others.
